I have to tell you that accommodation in New York is not cheap at all . Space in the Big Apple is a very precious commodity and that is why the rooms are very small, the quality-price ratio is average and the prices are very high. But that is the price you have to pay to visit New York.

Where to stay in New York
As I was saying before, New York is quite expensive and accommodation even more so . The quality of the hotels is much lower than their counterparts in Europe, so if you want good accommodation you will have to pay for it.
To give you an idea, a night for two in a 4-star hotel in one of the areas of Manhattan that we recommend in this article ranges from 150 to 250 euros per night . If you move away from this area and stay in Brooklyn or Queens you can find lower prices.
We have selected 5 areas in Manhattan and 3 in the surrounding areas so that you have plenty to choose from. However, our choice in New York has always been Manhattan. The first time we visited the city we stayed in SoHo and the second time in the Flatiron District . In any case, all the neighborhoods we recommend here we have visited and are absolutely recommendable.
Where to stay in Manhattan (New York)
1. Financial District
Downtown Manhattan is one of my favorite areas to stay in New York. As you probably already know, New York is the largest financial center in the world, housing major bank headquarters and the two largest stock exchanges in the world, NYSE and Nasdaq. Among all this, Trinity Church gives it an older feel.
Downtown Manhattan is always a lively area , and there are plenty of monuments and landmarks within walking distance. The 9/11 Memorial, One World Trade Center, New York City Hall and Battery Park are all within walking distance. The ferry to Staten Island , which overlooks the Statue of Liberty, can also be caught at the Whitehall Terminal.

2. SoHo and Tribeca
SoHo and Tribeca are two of the trendiest areas of the city. Formerly industrial zones, the process of gentrification that has taken place in some New York neighborhoods has turned these two areas into some of the most exclusive areas of Manhattan .
Boutiques and luxury shops on beautiful streets with old industrial buildings renovated and converted into expensive lofts.
SoHo was declared a Historical District for its iron buildings built in the 19th century and in recent years it has been the place chosen by celebrities to set up their residences and by luxury stores to set up flagships in the city.
In Tribeca , the perfectly maintained red brick buildings and the iconic fire escapes that we have seen in all the movies are the typical image. It is not a cheap area, but the hotels are very interesting and modern.

3. Flatiron District
We decided to stay in the Flatiron District the last time we were in New York and we certainly didn’t regret it. The Flatiron building is a symbol of New York, but the best thing about this neighborhood is that it is located halfway between Downtown and Midtown, which means you can visit everything practically on foot.
It is a very commercial area and Times Square and Central Park are just a stone’s throw away. The best thing is that at night if you want to visit the Broadway theatres or any of the two above, you can easily go there on foot and come back.
As in the whole city, accommodation prices are very expensive . Although it is true that in this area you can find some accommodations with more affordable prices.

4. Times Square
Times Square is another of the places with the most hotels in all of New York. The huge skyscrapers with neon signs are incomparable. In the surrounding area you will find Broadway with its famous theaters and you have Fifth Avenue , St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Rockefeller Center just a stone’s throw away.

5. Midtown
Midtown is also an ideal area to stay in New York. From here you can get to know the entire city perfectly, both the south and the most important monuments in the north . In this area you will find some of the best hotels in New York such as the Plaza or the Waldorf Astoria.
There are plenty of shops, restaurants and things to do , so if you choose to stay in Midtown you won’t be bored. Hotels in this area cost around 200 euros per night for two people in a 4-star hotel, a little less if you opt for a lower category.

Where to stay in New York outside of Manhattan
We also recommend three neighborhoods , two in Brooklyn and one in Queens, in case you don’t want to stay in Manhattan. We’ve always said that for a first trip, we recommend focusing on Manhattan, but perhaps staying in another borough will allow you to save a few euros and, at the same time, get to know other areas of the city.
1. Downtown Brooklyn
If you choose to get away from Manhattan, one of the first options you should consider is Downtown Brooklyn . It is perfectly connected to Manhattan in just a few minutes by public transport and there are plenty of hotels – a little more affordable than in Midtown or the Financial District – in giant glass skyscrapers.
In addition, you have the historic Brooklyn Heights District and the DUMBO area just a few meters away, so visiting Brooklyn is also an option.

2. Long Island City
Long Island City is another of the areas that has undergone the most transformation in recent years. A completely safe area where huge glass skyscrapers have been built. Almost all of the major American hotel companies have opened establishments.
It’s a great option, as the hotels are quite good and the prices are more affordable than in Manhattan . With subway line 7 you can get from Long Island City to Manhattan in just a few minutes.

3. Williamsburg
The Williamsburg area , perfectly connected to Manhattan via the subway and the Williamsburg Bridge, is a safe bet if you want to stay outside of Manhattan. Formerly a rather run-down area, in recent years gentrification and the arrival of citizens fleeing Manhattan have turned it into one of the most sought-after areas.
The arrival of large chains such as Apple, Whole Foods and Starbucks has already definitively established a neighbourhood that still retains part of its character with giant renovated industrial buildings , urban art and small shops.
Williamsburg’s hotel offering has been growing over the years with the arrival of hotels built in old factories that have been completely renovated. Below we leave you with some recommendations for you to take a look at.
